木で作られた靴、特にヨーロッパで農民などが履いた伝統的な木靴を指す。また軍事分野では、砲弾や弾体を砲身の中心に保って発射を助け、加速中の安定を確保し、砲口を出た後に分離する支持部品や覆いのこともいう。
