危険や苦しみ、困難な状況にある他者を救う人や存在を指す語です。宗教的な文脈ではイエス・キリストを指すことが多く、転じて英雄的な行動で人々を助ける人物について使われます。「救い主」や「救世主」という意味を含みます。
A saviour is a person who saves someone from danger, trouble, or failure. It can be used in ordinary situations, but it also has an important religious meaning, especially in Christianity. Saviour is the British spelling; savior is the American spelling.
