tasting は taste＋-ing。taste は古フランス語 taster を経て俗ラテン語 *tastare に由来し、もとは「触って確かめる」が中心でした。tax や tangent も遠い同根で、少し触れて品質を見きわめる感覚が「試飲」という意味に生きています。
Tasting is made from taste plus the ending -ing. Taste came through Old French taster from Late Latin *tastare, which originally meant "to touch" or "to test by handling." The idea moved from checking something by touch to checking food or drink by trying a little of it.
