雪解け

thaw の語源・成り立ち Etymology
thawは古英語thawianに由来し、さらにゲルマン祖語の「溶ける・ゆるむ」にさかのぼる語です。ドイツ語tauenも同系です。凍って固まったものがゆるみ、水に戻る動きがそのまま「雪や氷が解ける」という意味になりました。
