Vectoring is the act of directing someone or something along a particular path or heading. It is commonly used in aviation, where controllers guide aircraft by giving direction information.

まず vector を「矢印・向き」として押さえると覚えやすいです。vectoring はその ing 形なので、「相手に進む向きを次々与えていくこと」。航空では radar vectoring, vectoring an aircraft の形でよく出て、管制官がレーダーを見ながら heading（針路）を指示して機体を誘導する場面を思い浮かべると定着します。単なる移動そのものより、「方向を与えて誘導する手順・行為」に焦点がある語です。

vectoring の語源・成り立ち Etymology
vectoringはラテン語vehere（運ぶ）にさかのぼるvectorに、動作名詞の-ingが付いた語です。vehicleやvehicularも同根で、もともと「運ぶもの・方向を与えるもの」だったと知ると、航空機などを一定方向へ導く意味が腑に落ちます。
Vectoring comes from vector plus the action ending -ing. Vector goes back to Latin vehere, meaning "to carry," and vector originally meant "carrier" or "one who conveys." The sense later shifted toward something that directs movement or gives a line of force, which explains modern technical uses. Vehicle and vehicular come from the same root.
