warder
監視員
解説 Definition
A warder is a person whose job is to guard or watch over others, especially in a prison. The word is somewhat formal or old-fashioned in some varieties of English. It usually refers to a prison officer rather than a general security guard.
Memory Tip
Think of `warder` as close to `guard`, especially in prisons or other controlled places. The `-er` ending tells you it is a person with that role. It is easy to confuse with `warden`, so remember: `warden` sounds more like the manager, while `warder` is the person watching directly.
例文
The warder escorted the prisoner back to his cell after the court hearing.
A warder stood guard at the castle gate, checking everyone who entered.
The warder noticed something suspicious during his nightly rounds of the prison.

Etymology
`Warder` comes from `ward` plus the agent ending `-er`. `Ward` comes from Old English *weardian*, meaning "to guard, watch, or protect," and it is related to `guard`, which came from the same Germanic root through French. The word originally suggested a person standing watch to protect a place or boundary.
