accomplice はフランス語 complice を経てラテン語 complex にさかのぼり、com-（共に）+ plicare（折る）が核です。complicit と同じ plic 系で、原感覚は「折り重なって関わる」。そこから「悪事を共にした者」、つまり「共犯者」になりました。
Accomplice came into English through French complice and goes back to Latin complex. It is built on com-, "together," and a root related to folding or entwining. The original sense was of being closely involved or bound up with someone, and it later narrowed to sharing in wrongdoing; complicit comes from the same root.
