解説 Definition
見知らぬ人や通行人に突然近づき、強引に話しかけたり呼び止めたりすることをいう。単なる「声をかける」よりも、しつこさ、不躾さ、威圧感、迷惑さが感じられる場面で使われることが多く、路上などでの不快な接触を表しやすい語。
To accost someone means to approach them and speak in a direct, bold, or often aggressive way, especially when it is unwanted. The word is commonly used for uncomfortable encounters in public places and usually has a negative feeling.
