Angostura はスペイン語 angostura「狭い場所・狭まり」に由来し、さらに angosto「狭い」へ、語源をたどるとラテン語 angustus「狭い」に行き着きます。もとは地名で、川幅の狭まる土地を指した名がビターズ名として英語化しました。だから「アンゴスチュラ」は本来「狭いところ」の語感で、関連語は anguish、angustia です。
