astonishingly は astonish に -ing、-ly が付いた形です。astonish は古フランス語 estoner、さらに俗ラテン語 *extonare にさかのぼり、ex-「外へ」+ tonare「雷鳴を響かせる」から「雷に打たれたように驚いて」が原義で、astonishment も同根です。
Astonishingly comes from astonishing, from astonish, with the adverb ending -ly. Astonish came through Old French from Vulgar Latin *extonare, from ex- "out" and tonare "to thunder." The original idea was being struck or stunned as if by thunder, which later became the general sense of great surprise. Astonishment comes from the same root.
