覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
bench を公園のベンチではなく、法廷英語の the bench=裁判官席・司法側 として結びつけるのがコツ。そこに -er が付いて bencher は「その bench に属する人」。ただの barrister ではなく、Inns of Court で教育や運営にも関わる senior member まで含めて覚えると定着する。法律文脈で bench が出たら、judge 周辺の立場、法曹院の上級層を連想すると取り違えにくい。
Do not think first of a park bench. In legal English, `the bench` means the judges' side, so this word is someone connected with that formal legal bench. That makes it easier to remember in law contexts, especially with senior legal members rather than ordinary lawyers.

bencher の語源・成り立ち Etymology
bench(法廷の席)+ 接尾辞 -er(人)から成り、元は「法廷の席に座る人」の意。benchは古英語 benc(長椅子)に由来し、裁判官席を指すようになった。関連語: bench(裁判官席)、benchmark(基準)。法曹院で食堂の上席に座る資格を持つ上級会員を指す。
Bencher comes from bench plus the suffix -er, meaning "a person connected with something." Bench goes back to Old English benc, meaning a long seat, and later it also referred to the judges' seat in a court. From there, bencher came to mean someone entitled to sit on that bench, especially a senior member of an Inn of Court.
