覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
broker は売り手と買い手、または契約する二者の間に立つ「仲介人」です。stock broker「株式仲買人」、real estate broker「不動産仲介業者」、insurance broker「保険仲立人」の組み合わせで覚えましょう。単に助言する adviser ではなく、取引相手を結び付け、売買や合意の成立を助ける役割が核です。
Picture a broker standing between two sides of a deal and bringing them together. A stock broker helps clients buy or sell investments, a real estate broker connects property sellers with buyers, and an insurance broker finds suitable coverage for a customer. These common compounds provide a reliable memory framework. The central idea is arranging a transaction or agreement, often for a commission. A broker is therefore more specific than an adviser: advice may be part of the service, but the defining role is helping other parties complete a purchase, sale, or contract.

broker の語源・成り立ち Etymology
broker は中英語 brocour を経て古フランス語 broceur にさかのぼり、もとは樽に栓を差して中身を扱う商人を指したと考えられます。そこから売り手と買い手をつなぐ「仲立ち人」へ意味が広がりました。関連語は broach, brokerage です。
Broker entered Middle English as brocour or broker through Anglo-French and Old French forms such as broceur. Its earlier history is uncertain, but it has been associated with traders who handled wine casks, possibly through a word connected with broaching or tapping a barrel. The occupational meaning broadened from a dealer in goods to an intermediary who arranges transactions between buyers and sellers. Brokerage is the related noun for the business or fee.
