Immanent means existing naturally within something, rather than coming from outside it. It is often used in philosophy or religion to describe a quality, power, or spirit that is present inside the world, a system, or a person. It is different from "imminent," which means about to happen.

immanent はフランス語経由で後期ラテン語 immanens にさかのぼり、in-「中に」+ manere「とどまる」から成ります。語根は remain や permanent と同系で、「中にとどまって離れない」感覚から「内在的な」になりました。
