まず immortal を知っていると覚えやすい語です。mortal が「死すべき人間・命あるもの」、im- が否定なので immortal は「死なない」。そこに名詞化の -ity がついて「不死という性質・状態」になります。人そのものなら literal な不死、作品や名声なら achieve immortality のように「後世に残る不朽」の比喩でも使えます。immorality（不道徳）とはつづりがかなり似ているので混同注意。
