To intersect means to cross or meet at a point. It is often used for roads, lines, paths, or ideas that connect. In more formal contexts, it can also describe different subjects or experiences affecting each other.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
intersect は inter-「相互に」と、section・dissect にもある sect「切る」を意識すると覚えやすいです。線や道路なら「互いを切るように交わる」ので lines intersect, roads intersect。cross でも近いですが、intersect は図形・経路が交差する少しかための語。overlap は「重なり合う」で別。比喩でも interests intersect, our paths intersect のように「接点ができる」と広げて覚えると残りやすいです。
