intersectional の語源・成り立ち Etymology
intersectional は intersection「交差」＋形容詞語尾 -al から。inter- は「間で」、sect は「切る」に由来し、交わるものを扱う意味から社会的属性の交差性へ広がりました。
Intersectional comes from intersection plus the adjective ending -al. Intersection is built from inter-, meaning "between," and a root related to cutting, which developed into the idea of things crossing. From the idea of physical crossing, the word later came to describe the crossing of social identities.
