An interventionist is a person who supports active involvement in a situation, especially by a government or country. It can also be used more generally for strong outside involvement.
Memory Tip
non-interventionist(不介入主義者)と対比すると定着しやすい。
Build it from `intervention` plus `-ist`, which often means a person who supports an idea. If you know `intervene` and `intervention`, this word becomes easier: it is someone who believes in stepping in. It is also easy to remember next to the opposite word, `non-interventionist`.

Etymology
Interventionist comes from intervention, which goes back to Latin intervenire, meaning "to come between," from inter- "between" and venire "to come." With the ending -ist, it means a person who steps in to influence events. The word developed from the simple idea of "coming between" to the political sense of supporting active involvement. Related words include intervene and convention.
