jeopardy は古フランス語 jeu parti「勝敗が五分五分のゲーム」から来た語です。parti は part や partial と同根で、『結果が割れてどちらに転ぶか分からない勝負』という感覚が『危険』へつながりました。
Jeopardy comes from Old French jeu parti, literally something like "a divided game." It referred to a contest with an uncertain outcome, where either side might win. From that sense of uncertainty and risk, it developed into the idea of danger. The parti part is related to English part and partial.
