解説 Definition
人や組織、伝統などが消えずに生き続けたり存続したりすること、または限られたお金や食べ物などを頼りに暮らすことを表す句動詞。前者は記憶や名声が残る場合にも使え、後者は live on + 金額・収入 の形でよく用いられる。
To live on can mean to continue to exist or be remembered after death or after something has ended. It can also mean to have a particular kind of food or amount of money as your regular support. The exact meaning depends on the context.
