To carry on means to continue doing something. It is commonly used for work, activities, conversations, or behavior that does not stop. In informal English, it can also describe someone behaving in a noisy or emotional way.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
carry はまず「運ぶ・持っていく」、on は「先へ、そのまま続いて」。この2つを重ねて、「今していることを先へ運び続ける」感覚で覚えると定着しやすいです。carry on working / talking / as usual の形が頻出。continue より会話的で、「中断や困難があってもそのまま続ける」響きが出やすい点も意識するとよいです。carry out（実行する）とは別物なので混同注意。
