Lovesick means feeling sad, weak, or mentally distracted because of strong romantic love. It is often used when the love is not returned or when the person is separated from the one they love. The word has a slightly emotional or dramatic tone.

lovesick の語源・成り立ち Etymology
love（古英語 lufu）+ sick（古英語 seoc）の複合語で、16世紀に成立した語。lufu は「愛する・望む」、seoc は「病んだ」を表し、lovely や sickness も近い仲間。つまり「恋で病んでいる」が、そのまま今の「恋に悩む」になる。
Lovesick is a compound of love and sick, both from Old English: lufu and seoc. It originally expressed the idea of being made ill by love. Over time, it came to mean being emotionally troubled or weak because of romantic longing.
