Monocular means relating to one eye only. It can describe vision, a device, or an action that uses just one eye instead of both. It is often used in science, medicine, and optics.

mono- が付く語は monologue, monotone, monorail など「1つ・単独」の感覚を持つものが多いと押さえると入りやすい。ocular は eye より少し硬めの「目に関する」語で、binocular とセットで比べると定着しやすい。つまり monocular は「片方の目だけで見る／単眼の」。monocular vision, a monocular microscope のように、両眼視ではなく単眼での視覚や器具を述べる場面で使う。binocular を見たら“2つの目”、monocular を見たら“1つの目”と即対比できるようにすると忘れにくい。
