neoconservative の語源・成り立ち Etymology
語頭 neo- はギリシャ語で「新しい」。conservative はラテン語 conservare（保つ、保存する）に由来し、conserve や conservation と同根。つまり「新しいが、守る側に立つ」が核で、そこから neoconservative はネオコンの意味になった。
Neoconservative combines neo-, from Greek meaning "new," with conservative. Conservative comes from Latin conservare, "to keep" or "preserve," the same root seen in conserve and conservation. The word first suggested a newer form of conservatism, and later became the fixed political label neoconservative.
