さりげなく、平然と、気に掛けないように行動する副詞です。何かを冷静に、あるいは無関心に見えるように行う様子を表し、落ち着いた態度で自然に振る舞うことを示しています。

nonchalantly はフランス語 nonchalant に由来し、non-「ない」+ chaloir「気にかける」から成ります。chaloir はラテン語 calere「熱い」にさかのぼり、nonchalance も同根なので、「熱を帯びず気にも留めない」が『さりげなく』につながります。
Nonchalantly comes from French nonchalant, made from non-, "not," and chaloir, "to care." Chaloir goes back to Latin calere, meaning "to be warm" or "to be hot." The image is of not becoming heated or emotionally stirred, which led to the sense of acting calmly and as if nothing matters much. It is related to nonchalance.
