nonsense は non-『否定』＋sense『意味・分別』で、『意味がないこと』が原義です。sense はラテン語 sensus『感じること・理解』に由来するので、『筋道が立たず理解できないもの』→『ばかげた話、ナンセンス』となりました。関連語は sensible、sensation です。
