nougat の語源・成り立ち Etymology
nougat はフランス語 nougat からで、さらに南仏語 nogat、俗ラテン語 *nucatum、ラテン語 nux「木の実」へさかのぼります。核にあるのは「ナッツのお菓子」という発想で、ヌガーの材料そのものが語源です。関連語は nut、nucleus。
English borrowed nougat from French nougat. The French word came from Provençal or Occitan nogat, a term associated with nuts, and is traced through a form meaning “nut confection” to Latin nux, “nut.” The history reflects a central traditional ingredient rather than the modern sweet’s exact texture, since nougat can be soft, chewy, or firm and may now serve as a filling in other confectionery.
