obtuseはラテン語obtusus「鈍くされた」に由来し、ob-「向かって」＋tundere「打つ」が下敷きです。何度も打たれて刃先が丸くなるイメージから、角や感覚が「鈍い」という意味になりました。obtundやcontusionも同根です。
