英語 raisin は古フランス語 raisin「ぶどう」から入り、さらにラテン語 racemus「ぶどうの房」にさかのぼる。もとは“房のぶどう”の語なので、干しても果実感が残って「レーズン」となり、関連語は raceme, racemose。
