敷地
解説 Definition
建物や施設が建っている土地や、その周囲の敷地全体を指す語です。企業や団体が事業を行うために所有・賃借する領域を含み、建物の敷地だけでなくその付随施設も含まれます。入退場の制限や管理者の責任範囲が定められていることが多いです。

premises は古フランス語 premisse、さらに中世ラテン語 praemissa「前もって述べたこと」に由来します。pre-「前に」+ mittere「送る」から成り、契約書の前置きで先に記した建物説明がそのまま「敷地・建物一式」の意味へ広がりました。関連語は premise、mission です。
Premises comes from Old French and Medieval Latin forms meaning "things stated beforehand," from prae- "before" and mittere "to send." In legal writing, it referred to the earlier part of a document where property was described. From that usage, the word came to mean the building and land described there; premise and mission are related words.
