まず propose / proposal と結びつけると覚えやすい語です。proposition も核は「人の前に出して、検討・判断してもらう内容」。そこから、会議や交渉では「提案」、論理や数学では「真か偽かを判定できる主張＝命題」になります。提案の意味では suggestion よりやや固く、business proposition / value proposition のような形でもよく出ます。命題の意味では a proposition is true or false をセットで思い出すと定着します。preposition（前置詞）とつづりがかなり似ているので、pro- と pre- の見分けにも注意してください。
