それまで知らなかったことに気付く、または理解する。突然認識が生まれる経験です。
To realise means to suddenly understand something, or to become aware of a fact or situation. It is often used when you notice something you did not know before or when the truth becomes clear to you. In British English, this spelling is common; American English usually uses "realize."
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
real を知っていれば覚えやすい語です。realise は「頭の中でそれが real（現実のこと）になる」感覚で、ただ見るより『はっと気づいて理解する』に近いです。I realized that ... の形が非常によく出るので、後ろに気づいた内容が続く語として固めるとよいです。notice は見て気づく、understand は理解する、realise はその瞬間に認識がつながる語。なお綴りは英式 realise、米式 realize。
Think of `real`: when something becomes real in your mind, you `realise` it. A very common pattern is `I realised that ...`, so remember it as the moment a fact suddenly connects in your head. Also note the spelling: British `realise`, American `realize`.

Realise came into English through French realiser and goes back to Medieval Latin realis, meaning "actual" or "real." The deeper root is Latin res, meaning "thing" or "matter," also seen in real and reality. The idea first was to make something real, and later it developed into the sense of becoming aware of something as real or true.
