ある事柄に関係していることを表す語で、特に relating to ... の形で「…に関する」「…に関連する」という意味になる。法律文書、説明文、報告書などでよく使われる、やや堅めの分詞由来の表現。

relating は relate の現在分詞で、語源はラテン語 relatus（持ち帰って伝えられた）にさかのぼります。re-「後ろへ」+ lat-「運ぶ」から、元は「話を伝える」、そこから「物事を結びつける」となり、relation や relative と同根です。
Relating is the present participle of relate. Relate goes back to Latin relatus, from re- and a form of ferre, meaning "to carry," so the older idea was "to carry back" or "report." From telling something back, the meaning later developed into linking things together; related words include relation and relative.
