unrelated は un-「〜でない」+ relate + -ed。relate はラテン語 referre に由来し、re-「戻って」+ ferre「運ぶ」から成ります。relation や refer も同系で、物事を結びつけて運ぶ感覚がないので「無関係な」になるのです。
