解説 Definition
reported は、報告された、伝えられたという意味です。report(報告する)の過去形・過去分詞で、ニュースや記録などで何かが伝えられたことを表します。
Communicated or officially made known through a report, news account, record, or notification. It commonly appears after a form of “be” to indicate that an event, problem, or change was brought to someone's attention.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
report「報告する」に規則的な -ed が付いた過去形・過去分詞で、発音は /rɪˈpɔːrtɪd/ と一音節増えます。この用例では受け身 be reported の形で、「問題・火事・変更が誰かによって伝えられた」という状態を表します。reported yesterday、reported in the news のように時や媒体と結び付けて覚えます。
Reported comes from report plus the regular -ed ending. Since report ends in /t/, -ed is pronounced /ɪd/, giving /rɪˈpɔːrtɪd/. In these examples, focus on the passive pattern be reported: a problem, fire, or change is communicated or entered into a record by someone. Learn combinations such as was reported yesterday, reported to the police, and reported in the news. Reported describes information that has been passed on; it does not by itself guarantee that the information has been independently confirmed or proved true.

reported の語源・成り立ち Etymology
ラテン語 reportare(re-「back」+ portare「運ぶ」)が古フランス語 reporter を経て英語に。「情報を持ち帰る→報告する」が原義。関連語: transport(運搬)、portable(持ち運べる)。port-「運ぶ」の語根を知ると、import/export なども一気に理解できる。
Reported is the past tense and past participle of report, formed with the regular suffix -ed. Report came through Old French reporter from Latin reportare, combining re-, “back,” with portare, “to carry.” Its underlying image was that of carrying information back to another person. From this developed the senses of giving an account, making information known, and formally notifying an authority. Portable, transport, import, and export share the Latin element connected with carrying.
