repurchaseはre-「再び」+ purchase「買い求める」。purchaseは古フランス語で、もとは「追いかけて手に入れる」という感覚を持っていた。だからrepurchaseは「もう一度手に入れる」、つまり買い戻すで、purchaseやchaseが親類語。
"Repurchase" is made from re- meaning "again" and purchase. Purchase came through Old French and originally had the sense of gaining something by effort or pursuit.
