Resistive describes something that resists or reduces the effect of movement, force, or flow. It is often used in science and engineering, especially for materials that limit the flow of electricity.

resist を知っていれば覚えやすい語。中心は「逆らう・抵抗する」で、resistance は名詞、resistor は抵抗器、resistive は「抵抗する性質をもつ」という形容詞。特に電気では current flows easily の反対側で、電流をすっと通すのでなく邪魔するイメージを持つと定着しやすい。conductive（伝導性の）と対で覚えると混同しにくく、resistive material, resistive load のような技術表現でも見分けやすい。

resistive は resist + -ive「…する性質の」。resist はラテン語 resistere に由来し、re-「逆らって」+ sistere「立つ」から成るので、resistance や insist と同じく『押されても立って持ちこたえる性質』が抵抗性の核になる。
Resistive is formed from resist and the adjective ending -ive, meaning "having the quality of." Resist comes from Latin resistere, built from re- "against" and sistere "to stand."
