溝（みぞ）は、プラウで土を掘って作られた長く狭い筋のことです。農民は種を植えるために畑に溝を作ります。

furrow は古英語 furh「鋤でできた溝」に由来し、ゲルマン祖語を経てラテン語 porca「畝」と同系とされます。土地を耕して一本すじに裂いた形が原像なので、畑の溝にも額の深いしわにも使われます。関連語は furlong、furrowed。
