A restatement is something said or written again in a different way, usually to make the meaning clearer or more exact. It is common in explanations, discussions, and formal writing. In business or law, it can also mean an official revised version of an earlier statement.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
まず statement「発言・声明・記述」が土台。そこに re- が付くので、「いったん述べたことを、もう一度 statement する語」と捉えると覚えやすいです。日常英語では claim や point の restatement で「言い直し・再表現」、会計では financial statement の restatement で「決算の修正再提出」の意味になりやすいです。paraphrase が表現を言い換える感じなのに対し、restatement は内容を改めて正式に述べ直す響きがあります。
Build it from `statement` plus `re-`. That gives the feeling of saying or writing something again, often in a more careful or official way. It is close to `paraphrase`, but `restatement` sounds more formal, like repeating a point clearly.

restatement は re-「再び」+ state「述べる」+ -ment「結果」。state はラテン語 status・stare「立つ」に連なり、status や stable と同根です。つまり『内容をもう一度立て直して言葉に置く』ので、再表現という意味になります。
Restatement is built from re- "again," state "to express," and the noun ending -ment. State came through Latin and is related to stare, meaning "to stand," the same root seen in status and stable. The idea is of putting something into words again, as if setting it out once more.
