「strained」は、関係や状況が張り詰めた、または緊張した状態にあることを表す形容詞です。人間関係において不和や対立によって以前のような友好的な状態ではなくなっていることを指します。また、筋肉や体の一部を無理に使いすぎて傷めた状態、あるいは液体をこした（濾した）状態を表すこともあります。
Strained describes a relationship, situation, or atmosphere made tense, difficult, or uncomfortable by conflict or pressure. It can also describe an injured body part, something forced beyond a comfortable limit, or a substance that has been filtered.
