まずはやさしい summary「要約」を土台にすると覚えやすいです。summary は出来上がった要約そのもの、summarize は「要約する」、そこに -ation が付いた summarization は「要約すること・要約という処理」という少しかたい名詞。text summarization, document summarization, automatic summarization の形で出やすく、特にAIや論文では「長い内容から要点を抜き出して短くするプロセス」を指すと押さえると定着します。summarizing よりも用語っぽい響きです。

summarization は summarize＋-ation から成る語です。核の summar- はラテン語 summa「全体・要点」に由来し、「上に集まったもの」から「要約」の意味になりました。だから情報をすくい上げて要点だけ示す語だと分かり、関連語は summary, sum。
