abstract の語源・成り立ち Etymology
ラテン語 abstrahere（abs-「離れて」+ trahere「引く」）が語源。具体物から本質を「引き離す」発想から、概念的・抽象的な意味へ広がりました。
Abstract comes from the Latin word abstrahere, made from abs- meaning "away" and trahere meaning "to draw." The original idea was to draw something away from a concrete object. From that, the word developed the meaning of something general, conceptual, or not physical.
