ticketing は ticket＋-ing。ticket は古フランス語 estiquette／étiquette「貼り札・付け札」に由来し、もとは「貼りつける」を表す語につながる。切符とは本来「物に付ける札」なので発券の意味へ自然に広がり、関連語に etiquette, sticker がある。
Ticketing is formed from ticket plus the noun-forming -ing. Ticket came through French, probably from Old French estiquet, referring to a note or label, related to a verb meaning “attach” or “stick.” The idea of an attached identifying slip developed into that of a document granting travel or admission. Ticketing later arose for the process and systems used to issue and manage such documents.
