解説 Definition
文字起こしとは、講義や会話、インタビューなどの音声を聞き取ってその内容を文字で表す作業です。音声を正確に聞き取り、話者の言葉や話し方を反映した文章に書き起こします。会議記録や医療記録など、後で読み返して情報を確認する必要がある場面で使われます。

覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
transcription は transcribe の名詞形として覚えると残りやすいです。まず transcript を「書き起こした本文・記録」、transcribe を「音声を文字に起こす」とセットで押さえると、transcription はその作業や結果を指す語だと整理できます。-tion は動作・過程を名詞にする形なので、describe→description との並びでも覚えやすいです。meeting transcription, medical transcription など、録音や会話をあとで読める形にする場面で頻出。translation と違い、別の言語に訳すのでなく、同じ内容を文字化する語です。
