transcribeはラテン語trans-「越えて」+ scribere「書く」から成り、原義は「向こう側へ書き移す」です。scriptやdescribeも同じscrib-をもち、音声を文字へ移すので、ただ書くより「別の形に写す」語だと分かります。
Transcribe comes from Latin trans- meaning "across" and scribere meaning "to write." Its earliest sense was "to copy by writing across or over into another form."
