unafraid は un-「否定」+ afraid から成り、afraid は古フランス語系の afray「おびえさせる」にさかのぼり、さらに ex-「外へ」+ ゲルマン系の「平和」が背景にあります。affray も同根で、「平穏の外へ出されない」状態だと見ると、「恐れない」が形から理解できます。
