remarkable を「注目に値する」と知っていれば、先頭の un- で逆転して「注目されない」と取れる。まず a remarkable person / result のような強い印象を思い浮かべ、その反対側に unremarkable を置くと定着しやすい。『悪い』『ひどい』ではなく、『特に語る点がない』『印象に残らない』に近い。ordinary よりやや説明的で、an unremarkable town, a fairly unremarkable performance など、平凡で無難な文脈でよく出る。

unremarkable は un-「〜でない」+ remarkable「注目に値する」から成ります。remarkable はフランス語由来の remark（目印を付けて気づく）にさかのぼり、mark や marker も同根です。つまり「印を付けるほどではない」から「目立たない」の意味になります。
Unremarkable is made from un- and remarkable. Remarkable comes from remark, a word that entered English through French and goes back to mark, meaning a sign or visible note.
