attune は a- と tune から成り、原義は『調子を合わせる』です。tune は古フランス語を経てラテン語 tonus、さらにギリシャ語 tonos「張り・音程」にさかのぼり、tone や intonation と同根なので、『音をぴたりと合わせる』から比喩的に「同調する」となりました。
