deed の語源・成り立ち Etymology
deed は古英語 dǣd「行為・なされたこと」にさかのぼり、語源は do と同じゲルマン系です。接頭辞などの分解はありませんが、misdeed や indeed に痕跡が残り、「実際にしたこと」が転じて証書の意味も生まれました。
Deed comes from Old English dǣd, meaning "act" or "something done." It is from the same Germanic root as do. The basic idea was simply a completed action, and from "what has been done" it later also developed the legal sense of a formal document recording an act; compare misdeed and indeed.
