Delisting is the removal of a company's shares from a stock exchange. It is used in business and finance when a company no longer meets exchange rules or chooses to leave the market. Usage note: it refers to official market status, not just a drop in price or popularity.

listing「上場・掲載」が分かれば、de- は「外す・取り消す」の方向なので、delisting は文字通り「上場リストから外れること」と押さえると記憶しやすい。株式ニュースでは listed company と対で現れ、delist a company, be delisted from the exchange, face delisting, avoid delisting のような形が頻出。trading halt のような一時的な売買停止ではなく、取引所の名簿から外れて公開市場で売買できなくなる、かなり重い出来事だと結びつけると定着する。

delisting は de-「外す」+ list「一覧」+ -ing から成り、list は古フランス語 liste を経てゲルマン系の語にさかのぼります。enlist や blacklist も同根で、核は「枠に載せること」です。そこから「一覧から外すこと」がそのまま「上場廃止」になりました。
Delisting is built from de-, meaning "remove," list, and -ing. List came through Old French liste and goes back to a Germanic source connected with a border, strip, or ordered line.
