ラテン語 disruptus（ばらばらに壊された）が源で、dis-「離して」+ rupt「壊す」+ -ive「〜する性質の」から成ります。もともと秩序を断ち切って崩す感覚があり、そこから「既存の仕組みをかき乱す＝破壊的な」という意味になりました。関連語は rupture, interrupt です。
